Microplastics

Microplastics are plastic particles, fibers and other plastic parts that range in size from a few micrometers – the thousandth part of a millimeter – to less than five millimeters in length, width or diameter. A large amount of microplastic is released directly into the ocean through the slow decay of larger pieces of plastic. However, microplastics can also be produced on land – for example when washing synthetic textiles or through abrasion from car tires, which initially floats in the air as dust and then enters the sea with the wind or via runoff. Microplastics have now reached all parts of our lives and the environment. This can also be detected in drinking water. Possible damage to human health cannot be ruled out, but must still be scientifically investigated in more detail in conclusion.
